Spiral Caustics of Vortex Beams

چکیده

We discuss the nonparaxial focusing of laser light into a three-dimensional (3D) spiral distribution. For calculating tangential and normal components electromagnetic field on preset curved surface we propose an asymptotic method, using which derive equations for stationary points relations in form one-dimensional (1D) integrals over radial component. The results obtained through approach direct calculation Kirchhoff integral are identical. particular case ring, analytical relation is derived. Based theory, design numerically model performance diffractive optical elements (DOEs) to generate distributions shaped as two-dimensional (2D) 3D spirals with variable angular momentum. reveal that under certain conditions, there effect splitting longitudinal Experimental use spatial modulator good agreement modeling results.

Production of electron vortex beams carrying large orbital angular momentum using spiral zone plates.

We report the production of electron vortex beams carrying large orbital angular momentum (OAM) using micro-fabricated spiral zone plates. A series of the spherical waves, focussing onto different positions along the propagating direction of the electron beam, were observed. The nth order vortex beam has an OAM n times larger than that of the first-order vortex beam. We observed an electron vor...

Divergence of optical vortex beams.

We show, both theoretically and experimentally, that the propagation of optical vortices in free space can be analyzed by using the width [w(z)] of the host Gaussian beam and the inner and outer radii of the vortex beam at the source plane (z=0) as defined in [Opt. Lett.39, 4364 (2014)10.1364/OL.39.004364OPLEDP0146-9592]. We also studied the divergence of vortex beams, considered as the rate of...

Polarization basis for vortex beams.

Attention is called to a polarization basis formed by four Jones vectors that is reducible to two basic structures. In these states the field is linearly polarized at any point, but the polarization direction changes with the angular coordinate. Very simple equations hold for the field lines of these basis vectors. The adoption of this basis is of interest for beams possessing a single vortex o...
